The AI Agent Category Error

Placing the AI coding agent on the intent spectrum is a category error. The spectrum assumes the actor has intent. The AI agent has none. It has an externally set objective, no motivation, and no values. It is orthogonal to the intent axis, not somewhere in the middle of it.

The natural instinct is to treat it as a mostly well-intentioned actor with occasional problematic behavior. This misclassification leads to applying the wrong design paradigm. The pit of success assumes judgment. The fortress assumes directed adversarial intent. The AI agent has neither. It needs its own model: the suggestible actor.
